NOW WE’RE COOKING WITH GREASE
Utilizing both film and physical ceramic tiles of various sizes, the show addresses themes of participating in cycles of loss, grief, fulfillment, and joy inherent in finding and showing up for marginalized communities.
Imagery of nature paralleling moments of intimacy between figures that have been carved into glazed ceramic slabs, into stone, solidifies the urgency of preserving and ruminating on these moments that mirror each other. When placed in the context of moving image, these carved depictions represent an investigation of perception, actions of symbolism, and the importance found in how we perceive and remember pivotal shared experiences amongst communities we find necessary. This body of work ultimately champions finding meaning in each other.
