Create three playful mixed-media collage cubes using paint, paper, and ephemera. Layer images, textures, and found elements to transform small wooden forms into unique three-dimensional artworks. Stack, display, or hang your finished pieces as personal expressions of creativity.
Spend a fun and creative day playing with collage and mixed media on small open wooden boxes (4” x 4” x 2-1/2”). Explore the joy of layering papers, paint, and found elements as you transform collected fragments into three unique little works of art. You’ll learn simple techniques, helpful tips, and creative ideas for adding texture, color, and meaning to your pieces while creating a series of personal three-dimensional collages.
These one-of-a-kind creations make wonderful gifts or keepsakes that can be stacked, displayed side by side, or hung on a wall.
No experience is needed. This workshop is fun for anyone with a sense of curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Experienced artists are welcome, too, and will enjoy exploring new ideas and approaches.
All materials are provided. Please bring a beverage and bag lunch to eat while you work.
instructor Overview
Barbara Crow
I have been studying and making art my whole life. I received a B.A. in Art History from George Washington University. A career in graphic arts management gave me a strong sense of color and design. Taking workshops and classes focused me more as an artist and I began working seriously as an artist after attending Santa Rosa Jr. College where I studied painting.
As a painter and collage artist, I work in multiple mediums. I am drawn to texture, color and patterns using paint, paper and mixed media. Sometimes I work from remembered scenes or images, suggestions of where I’ve been and I’m intrigued by weathered and age-worn surfaces. As I build layers, the piece pulls me along, and I’m
responding to the juxtaposition of shapes and marks until a cohesive composition develops.
My work has been juried into the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Falkirk Cultural Center, The Arts Guild of Sonoma, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, Santa Rosa Arts Council. I have participated in private group and solo shows at The Sonoma Library, Marin Open Studios, Bump Cellars, Sunflower Café, Guide Dogs for the Blind and others.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at [email protected] to request a late addition.
