Join puppet artist Lisa Zagone for a lively Show & Tell and demonstration exploring flocking, fur, hair, and feathers in puppetcraft.
Drawing on years of professional experience building for stage, film, and live performance, Lisa will share some of the materials, tools, tricks, and techniques she uses to turn a bare puppet surface into something furry, fuzzy, feathered, hairy or just plain strange.
The demonstration will cover flocking techniques; sewing, dyeing, trimming, and processing synthetic and natural fur; working with feathers; hair punching; and other useful approaches to creating convincing textures and finishes.
Along the way, Lisa will share examples of different products and tools, practical tips learned through years of trial and error, and finished examples showing how these techniques can be put to use.
Whether you’re an experienced puppet builder or simply curious about how all that hair gets on there, come see what’s possible when things get a little fuzzy.
instructor Overview
Lisa Zagone
Lisa Zagone is a professional theater designer of over 20 years, and a university lecturer in technical theatre for 12 years. She is a professional visual artist specializing in unique, once-off creations for theatre, film, performance, and private commissions.
She is currently the Lead Designer and Fabricator at Odd Savvy in Oakland, CA. “While I am currently focusing on mostly puppetry, my work often includes costume design, scenic arts, specialty props, wearable art, or bodypainting. My artistic style is evident across various media, as playful, detailed and darkly whimsical.”
She earned her MFA and BA in Fine Art, at SFSU in California. She has continued exploring puppetry, with a certificate in Puppetry Arts from UConn, as well as the Academy of the Wooden Puppet with Bernd Ogrodnik in Reykjavik.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed.
