Paint your own luchador mask with artist Jose Martinez, then build a loaded nacho feast with fresh salsa, guacamole, and Mexican street corn.

Two of Mexico’s great traditions, lucha libre and a truly excessive plate of nachos, in one evening.
Start the night with local artist Jose Martinez, who will guide you through designing and painting your own luchador mask. No painting experience needed. Jose will walk you through the iconography and color language of classic lucha libre masks, then turn you loose on a blank mask of your own.
While the masks dry, we move to the kitchen. Together we will prep everything that goes into a proper loaded nacho spread: fresh salsa, guacamole made to order, and elote-style Mexican street corn. Then we build the whole thing out on one long table and eat it standing up, masks on.
You will leave with a finished luchador mask, the recipes, and the technique to pull this off at your next party.
All materials and food are included in the class fee.

instructor Overview
Gerardo Diaz
Gerardo Diaz is a passionate individual with a love for the great outdoors, culinary arts, and family connections. Born and raised in Mazatlan Sinaloa Gerardo’s affinity for nature was fostered from a young age. His earliest memories are filled with the sights and sounds of the ocean waves sparking a lifelong passion for exploration and adventure.
Beyond his love for fishing, Gerardo is also a skilled culinary enthusiast. He delights in the art of cooking, using fresh ingredients and innovative techniques to create mouthwatering dishes that tantalize the taste buds. From sizzling seafood caught on his own fishing excursions to hearty meals prepared with love for his family, Gerardo’s kitchen is always brimming with creativity and flavor.
Above all else, Gerardo treasures time spent with his family. Whether they’re gathered around the dinner table sharing stories and laughter or embarking on outdoor escapades together, the bond they share is unbreakable. He believes that family is the cornerstone of happiness and finds true joy in nurturing those relationships through shared experiences and cherished moments.
Jose Martinez
Jose Martinez is a resident artist with the Mare Island Art Studios (formerly known as the Coal Shed Studios). He is a trusted advocate for youth and works at the Napa Valley College and at Sonoma Ballooning. He has a BA in Studio Painting and Art History from San Francisco State University.
Jose Martinez uses oil on canvases and panels to portray average, everyday people—often those who in one way or another have had an impact on his life.
Jose’s desire is to capture the beauty and intricate nature of the human experience, be that through painting, drawing, or photography. Through his use of light, shadow, and hue, he reveals a story, highlights an emotion, or simply captures a moment suspended in time.
Jose is also dedicated to helping individuals express themselves by facilitating art classes. He believes that art is a positive outlet for expression and healing. Creativity sparks character growth, instills confidence, and engages the mind on a journey of self-discovery. Jose embraces art’s power to heal. Not only does he think that art offers an avenue for communication and self-reflection, it also allows us to reinvent ourselves.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed.
