Sonoma Community Center welcomes traveling chef Ryan Smolar for a special culinary event on Friday, November 13. “Let’s Cook Messy in Morocco” offers a hands-on evening of photos, travel stories, and a shared Moroccan meal prepared together. The class is open to all skill levels, and whether you eat meat or keep it plant-based, there’s a seat for everyone at this table.

Sonoma, California. In 1996, Sonoma Community Center had the honor of portraying Woodsboro High School in Wes Craven’s horror classic Scream. To celebrate the anniversary, the Center has planned the “Woodsboro High Class of ‘96 Reunion” with events on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31. A lucky few will have the opportunity to stay overnight in the historic and possibly haunted building.

Sonoma, California. The Sonoma Community Center will hold its annual Día de Muertos Altar Lighting and Celebration on Sunday, November 1, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The free event is centered around the lighting of a 12-foot public altar at the front of the Center at 6:30 p.m., followed by traditional folk dances by Grupo Folklórico Quetzalén, food, and cultural activities for all ages on the back patio.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Scream, Sonoma Community Center will host a “Haunted Market” on Saturday, October 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a special preview sale on Friday, October 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Held in Room 110, the market is a spooky shopping event for horror fans. There are no age restrictions, but some imagery may not be appropriate for minors. Admission to the Haunted Market is free.

Sonoma Community Center is partnering with Zero Waste Sonoma to celebrate Zero Waste Week, Saturday, October 10, through Saturday, October 17, with four free workshops, sponsored by Zero Waste Sonoma, that turn flowers, kitchen scraps, worn-out sweaters, and discarded packaging into something new.

Sonoma, California. The perfect family puppet show is coming to Sonoma Community Center on October 24 at 11:00 a.m., presented by a puppeteer who began his career performing puppet shows for his mom from behind the living room sofa.

Sonoma Community Center is hosting a reception during the October 1 Sonoma Art Walk for “Home Again, Home Again,” a new exhibit by One Beach Plastic. The exhibit will be open in Gallery 212 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will remain open daily until Sunday, November 1. Light refreshments will be served.

Sonoma Community Center is pleased to announce a new series of free and low-cost classes and workshops designed to make creative education accessible to everyone in the community. Made possible through an arts education grant from The Community Foundation Sonoma County, the program will offer at least one class or workshop each month across a diverse range of artistic disciplines.

Sonoma Community Center brings back musician and composer John Partridge to accompany two short films by Buster Keaton. Keaton’s first short film, One Week, and one of his last shorts, The Balloonatic, will screen in Andrews Hall on Thursday, October 8, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are just $10 per person, and all ages are welcome. Classic film enthusiast and Movies Are Magic author Jennifer Churchill will introduce the films.

The Sonoma Community Center will host an intimate concert in their Secret Garden on Friday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. Coyote Girls and Desert Hollow will make a stop in Sonoma on their West Coast tour, which will culminate in The Good Luck Camp Out Mountain Music Festival the weekend of September 24-27 in Mi-Wuk Village, California.
